Fees and Payment

There are so many ongoing stories about money, wealth, healthcare, wellness, and healing.

My fee plan is part of my ongoing navigation through our systems of capitalism balanced with my values around health, healing, and community. Each tier considers and includes access to wealth, resources, barriers, life circumstances, and the ways they move in and out of our lives.

Choosing a Fee

Review the fee chart and pick the one that best reflects your situation. That is it. There is no test. If you aren’t sure we can talk about ways to identify your resources and expenses and choose one.

Current Tiers Available

I currently have openings for the Cosmos, Asteroid, Comet, and Galaxy tiers of $280, $250, $225, and $200 for therapy services. Assessment and letter writing services are available at all tiers.

What Do the Labels Mean?

The tiers are labeled to offer a reference point for our discussions, so we can say "oh, the Galaxy tier feels comfortable right now" and include each tier without a hierarchy. You are welcome to use the numbers, titles, or fees as we discuss them.

Fee Tiers

Fees start at $250 for individuals, $280 for relationships, $400 for immigration related assessments, and $250 for gender affirming and emotional support animal assessments. When there are spots open, all of these can be adjusted to include your current financial situations. You can check out the tier charts above if a visual helps it be clear.

The tiers represent placeholders for different available rates. Pick the tier that most reflects your situation, let me know, and we can discuss any part of the fee that we need to. I do not require paystubs or proof, as this discussion is about your history and experience with finances, not just one marker of income.

As you identify your tier and we set our fee, I welcome you to consider your history with money, your financial opportunities and access to resources, barriers to financial stability, community obligation and support, access to resources, health costs, savings plans, debt, and how they all influence your financial stories.

I review our fees every year, and include a $5-10$ increase if that feels feasible. We can always discuss fees and how they feel, and make adjustments up or down as impactful and important situations arise.

Why are evaluations for immigration and visa proceedings more money? These evaluations often include collaboration with legal organizations, court testimony, and multiple hours. The higher rate is to account for the additional hours that might be involved.

Payment

I accept cash, check, and credit/debit cards for payment options. You are welcome to use flex spending or health saving (HSA/FSA) cards if you have one. When meeting remotely, I accept cards through Ivy Pay, a secure text based platform, as the starting option, and we can explore other options if you are using something other than cards.

Insurance

In Network Insurance Plans

I currently am paneled with one insurance plan directly, San Francisco Health Plan through Carelon, formerly Beacon. I am not accepting new folks through this plan.

Out of Network Insurance and Superbills

I am an "out of network provider" for insurance plans other than SFHP Medi-Cal. If you have insurance and your plan provides reimbursement for out of network providers, a superbill can help you get reimbursed for our therapy sessions. You would pay me directly, and I can provide superbills for you to submit to your insurance plan.

Each insurance panel and plan has their own policies, and can differ even within the same company. Some, like Medi-Cal, Medi-Care, and Kaiser, are separate systems that don't generally accept superbills at all or without specific authorization for connecting to an out-of-network provider. As we begin our work, we can discuss whether you have insurance, would like to apply superbills, and what we can do to make that possible.

I also use a platform called Thrizer to streamline superbills and insurance reimbursement. If we choose to use this option, you can have superbills submitted directly, directly receive reimbursement, and get information about your claims process. When I use Thrizer, I use my full rate, and your reimbursed rate would be determined by your insurance policy out of network coverage. I would process our fee through Thrizer, you pay the full amount, and they then can help submit your claim and help you get reimbursed as quickly as possible.

When using an insurance plan to help cover mental health services, there are several factors to keep in mind. Most insurance plans require a mental health diagnosis, and maintain some types of access to treatment records. I always release only required and relevant information to maintain confidentiality and privacy and enable access to any coverage or benefits available.

Good Faith Estimate

Under the No Surprises Act, health care providers will provide an estimate of the expected fees for service users who do not have insurance, or who are not using their insurance for therapy or other health care services. You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your psychotherapy and other therapy and assessment services will cost:

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

If we know how long our work will last it will specifically be indicated in the estimate, and if we are working in a more open-ended framework I will provide a yearly estimate, and we can always adjust for a shorter or longer time frame, and adjust our estimate and fees if any other changes occur.
