Reiki
Reiki is an energy practice that focuses and welcomes energy to the parts of our minds and bodies that connect to it.
Reiki as an energy practice first began in Japan, when an individual, Dr. Mikao Usui, encountered it during a meditation retreat. His experience lead him to an understanding of channeling universal life energy for healing, resilience, and restoration. Connecting to this universal energy can lead to emotional, physical, and spiritual support and healing.
Reiki Lineages
Some schools and lines of Reiki practice are closely guarded for many reasons, including both cultural protection (important), resisting corporate control (great), and straight up gate keeping (misuse of power). This can sometimes show up as a focus on attunement lineage, so here is mine:
I received my first Reiki attunement after responding to a post on Craigslist. This amazing person was leaving the world they created to go to graduate school, and was offering Reiki attunements as an offering before they left. They offered me level one and level two attunements. This was a wonderful exchange, however this is very, very much not how it is SUPPOSED to go, so I just accessed Reiki for myself, my animal companions, and close friends who asked.
For years, I have wanted to offer Reiki in community if folks wanted or were open to it. In order to feel more comfortable in offering it more broadly and to continue to navigate ethical and sensitive use of the practice, I received Reiki level 1 attunement from Ewa Litauer.
Reiki isn’t ever something we have to use, and I will always ask if you would like to receive or incorporate it before offering it. I also remain open to sharing and offering it if you ever want to incorporate energy into the work we are doing together.
Reiki can be offered any time, in-person or remotely. You don’t need to have a plan, and we can decide together to include it any time.
While some Reiki practitioners incorporate touch, I use a hands off approach, accessing energy while maintaining distance. We can decide together if we want to remain quiet, keep talking, check in, or set a time frame. We can continue other processing during or after if we so choose.
